Not only did Toyota listen to us (and their finance department) and gave the US the GT86 nameplate, we also got more power!
This bruiser now makes 205hp! Don’t bother learning the face, you’ll only be seeing the rear end, yo!
The smartest thing about this 86 is the absence of 86 badges. I can guarantee that this vehicle will have more badge thefts than the G-wagon’s headlamps or the Accord Coupe’s wheels. There are so many FRS on the roads, all of them customized, and those badges are free to take and easy to sell on Ebay.

That extra 5HP is going to break necks.

I’m hoping with those tiny bumps it took out the torque dip in the middle of the powerband everyone always talks about. I feel like that’s what kills it for people.

“Wow, the GT86 gets more power?? Awesome!!”
Clicks on the oppo link
“+5hp....................... Really???”

5hp. Come on.
Honestly the worst thing about the FRS/BRZ is that despite it being a great car with lots of hype behind it and tons of potential Toyota and Subaru have fucked it with half-arsed development during the production run.
Not only have they fucked it for their own investment, but they've fucked it for the market niche in general. It sold well, but not well enough to spawn imitators which is what really gets a niche rolling.

NO ONE will complain about the power now.

Well this model is debadged. Once you put on the the 86 badges you’ll get the rest it!

Well, I live in Japan so..... :)
But yeah, “Scion FRS” was a shitty name lol

I’m complaining, it’s too much! Toyota has lost its way and needs to return to making cars that focus on the driving experience, not onramp land missiles!

Good thinking! I was wondering that myself. I think we shouldn’t count out the adjustment to the usable power curve and gearing just because the numbers aren’t new.

Psh, my buddy has an FRS that’s way more JDM than anything you could get! Oh, wait...

205 horsepower in a car as small and light as the 86 sounds like more than enough to me, especially if they fixed the torque curve. But I also think my M3 that is outdragged by the average new midsize sedan is super fast.

THANK YOU! I’ve been saying that since they put that crazy 110 hp 4AGE in the MR2 and AE86!
110?!?!?!
I mean, that’s crazy! Who needs that much? Now we’re looking at cars with more than
200
? I fear for the future of anyone whose foot slips in the rain.

I’m just running in the nineties, come on baby run to
We are running in the nineties, is a new way to set me free.
I’m just running in the nineties.

That looks like a USDM Scion badge on it’s butt.

Okay, I’ll admit it, for a brief moment I took the headline too seriously and thought I might be about to sell my STI. Irrational though it may be, a ~300hp BRZ would be damn near irresistible.

Oh... Would you trust me if I were to tell you I actually listen to this “song” in full blast very often on most of the mountain runs around my place :D

Most likely is... Scion is “cool” here man lol...
Not even joking. Lots of people change their GT86 badges for FRS ones...

He went as far as exchanging his airbag and steering wheel with a friend of his in Hawaii who wanted the GT86 one...

Wow that is hideous.

I think it looks good. Sure a bump of 5hp isn’t much, but that doesn’t mean the torque curve isn’t bumped out where it counts in the midrange. I’ll be interested to see what the dyno looks like. Since Toyota took a cue from the enthusiasts and are calling it the 86, I do wonder if we will see a TRD version with a turbo or supercharger or something.
